About Our Namesake
George W. Shiroky
1937-2025

George W. Shiroky was born in Sylvan Grove, Kansas and was an avid reader.  He mostly loved history and learning about the military.  In July of 1954, he joined the United States Navy, serving with dedication and pride aboard the USS Hancock.

In 1963, George moved with his wife Cynthia to Las Vegas, Nevada and joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 720, embarking on a career as a stagehand.  He took an active role within the union, advocating for workers and ensuring fair conditions as an executive board member.

George loved reading and instilled that love of reading to all of his daughters.  His youngest daughter, Connie, loved to read as well and she became a school teacher.  George W. Shiroky's greatest wish was to some day open a library for middle schoolers where everyone would feel at home.
